Claude Phillips, age 70, passed away March 20, 2015 in Del Rio, Texas. He was born November 29, 1944 in Del Rio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude S. Phillips and Opal Phillips.
Left to cherish his memory are brother, Bobby Phillips, sister, Carolyn Heep and husband Eugene, nieces, Debbie Heep of Abilene, Tx., and Sandy Arnall (Larry) of Fort Worth, Tx.
Claude graduated from Southwest Texas State University, now Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. He was an accountant and bookkeeper having worked for Isenhour Service Center, Brown Automotive, and Brown Chevrolet. Claude’s hobbies included reading, photography, and all things related to sports. Many former Little Leaguers and Babe Ruth Leaguers will remember Claude coaching the Producers Wool and Mohair in the Del Rio National Little League and the Storm in Del Rio Babe Ruth League.
Claude loved coaching and he was manager when his Little League All Star team won the 1975 District 21 Championship. His Babe Ruth team won the Texas State Championship in l989. Claude was an avid sports card collector. He, along with his brother, opened Heroes and Legends Baseball Cards in La Villita Shopping Center and gave lots of little kids (and a few “big kids”) a way to spend their spare time.
Pallbearers will be Larry Herrington, Mike Salinas, Rick Isenhour, Ernesto Hernandez, Joe Lopez and Jerry Barker.
Claude’s family would like to thank his nurse caregiver Jessica DeHoyos for all of her help. They would also like to thank Mr. Steve Sosa and all of his staff at La Vida Serena Nursingand Rehabilitation. The family would also like to thank Donna Kincaid of Resource Health Services, Inc. including her staff—Myra Gonzalez and Lisa Lopez. Our extreme gratitude goes to Rosie Garcia of Resource for her tireless effort and fortitude to always help Claude. Thanks also go to Dr. Mark Manning and especially Conice Boenicke, PA-C for all of his effort and willingness to go the extra mile for Claude.
