Obituary


Dan Wipff, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully at his home in Addison on Wednesday, May 27th. Preceded in death by his parents Gerald August and Opal Pauline (Sollars) Wipff. He is survived by Myrna (Bixby) Wipff, his loving and dedicated wife of 53 years; sister Janet Burns of Del Rio; daughter Deborah Hall and husband Michael of Dallas; son Douglas and wife Tria of Haverhill, MA; Mother and Father-in-Law Lena and Myron Bixby of Del Rio, grandchildren Kendall, Zachary, Bennett, Keegan and Hannon Wipff and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind Holly the Dog, a true and faithful companion for 15 years.
Dan was born October 10, 1942 in Keokuk, IA and raised in Del Rio, TX. During his youth he was active in the Boy Scouts, achieving Brotherhood membership in the Order of the Arrow and the rank of Eagle Scout with two palms. He was a 1960 graduate of Del Rio High School, where he played on the football team and was in the Chess and Spanish Clubs. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1965.


Dan was a strong believer in the ideals of faith, family, personal liberty and responsibility. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Houston where he served as an Elder and Deacon for many years, and lived out his faith by helping others whenever he could. His dedication to his family was tireless; lending support and wise counsel to all. He particularly enjoyed visiting his extended family and seeing his many nieces and nephews during his trips home to Del Rio.
Dan's dedication to his craft resulted in steady advancement in the corporate world, eventually serving as President of several venture capital, banking, technology and manufacturing Corporations. After retiring, he was an active member of the Heights Rotary Club of Houston.
Dan enjoyed golfing and travel and was an avid fan of the Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys. He was respected by all, loved by many, and leaves behind a multitude of people who will miss his wit, generosity and kindness.


A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, June 1st at 11:00 a.m. at Rhoton Funeral Home in Carrollton, TX. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Rotary Club of Houston Heights, The University of Washington Merkel Cell Carcinoma Research (merkelcell.org), or the charity of your choice.
