George F. Adams, Jr.

George F. Adams, Jr., passed from this life on October 23, '07. He was born May 23, 1919 in Columbia, Tennessee to George F. Sr. and Alline Ledbetter Adams. He moved to Del Rio with his parents at the age of 9. He graduated from Del Rio High School in 1936. Drafted at the start of WWII, he initially served as a private in the Military Police. After acceptance and graduation from Officer Candidate School he helped train two infantry units. He became a replacement Officer  in the 95th Infantry Division after "D" Day. For the next twelve months he served as a Combat Infantry Officer in a Scout Squad as part of Patton's Third Army drive into Germany through the end of the war. He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action.

After serving four years and six months in the Army he was honorably discharged as Captain. Upon his return from the war he married Ruth Osadil of Finlayson, MN. Together they owned and operated Adam's Flowers of Del Rio for the next 43 years. A faithful Christian he was a lifetime member of the Central Church of Christ serving as Elder for 45 years. Active in the community he was a Life Member of the Del Rio Lions Club for over 60 years. As a private pilot he previously served in the Civil Air Patrol. He also served as First Vice President of the Texas State Florist Association and an area director for FTD.

He is survived by Ruth his loving wife of 62 years; two sons: Patrick and his wife Cindy of Dallas, TX and Joe Michael of Tomball, TX; four grandchildren: Chris, Missy, Hayley and Callie Adams.
