Marilyn Martin Hunt

(March 22, 1946 - December 28, 2015)

Marilyn Martin Hunt, devoted wife, mother, Mema, aunt, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on December 28, 2015 at the age of 69. She was born March 22, 1946 in Del Rio, Texas to James A. and Mary Martin. Marilyn grew up on the Running W/Continental Ranch owned by R.W. Prosser in Dryden, Texas and moved to Del Rio in the 1950's where she graduated from Del Rio High School in 1964. She then attended the University of Texas where she met her life partner, Howard Hulen Hunt and married in 1967. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics in 1968, Marilyn and Howard moved to the Continental Ranch in Comstock, Texas where they raised their 2 wonderful children, Heather Hunt Gibbs and Dr. Howard "Mister" Hunt Jr. After 6 years at the ranch, Marilyn and her family moved to her grandparents' house in Del Rio. Marilyn loved gardening and being a member of Del Rio's Cactus Thorn Garden Club. She was active in her community, including the Christian Women's Club and Women's Aglow. Marilyn was passionate about God, her faith, her family, her ranch, her kitchen, and life in general. She was a "Mom" to many and a steward to all. Her love of all things great and small and her passion for teaching lead her to the SFDRCISD where she taught Consumer Science (Home Economics) for 14 years and retired in 2012. In 2013, Marilyn was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) which she courageously fought for nearly 3 years. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband and their children; daughter, Heather Hunt Gibbs and her husband Miles, and son, Howard "Mister" Hunt Jr. and his wife Loral all of Del Rio, Texas; and 4 grandchildren Pasch Gibbs and Reed, Chatham and Royce Hunt. Pallbearers are John Plumb, Martin Weathersbee, Robert Cadena, Steve Kalteyer, Buck Sellers, Kyle Plocheck, Dustin Newton, Ray McLain, and Richard Blocker. Honorary Pallbearers are Hilton Hunt, Lee Weathersbee, Walter Weathersbee, James McQueen, Larry Horn, Gary Humphreys, David Winters, Jimmy Sellers, Harry Vogt, Joe Adriance and Bill Poindexter. Marilyn and her family wish to thank the numerous people who helped them through this journey, including Dr. Laing, Dr. Jackson, Dr. Nawar, Father John C. Fritts, Marcum Majors, Pam Kittrell, the ALS Association of San Antonio, Paloma Cariaga, Leslie Dunbar, Samantha Santellanes, Country Living Place, Bonnie Henderson, Felipe Rodriguez RT, Amelia Dominguez, Maria Elena Lincon, Olga Camarillo, Pam Szubinski, and Blanca Barrera. Visitation will be at G. W. Cox Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, January 1, 2016 from 6-9 pm. Funeral Service will be at St. James Episcopal Church on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 1 pm, followed with burial at Westlawn Cemetery. In lieu of usual remembrances, Marilyn requested all donations be made to St. James Episcopal School, St. James Episcopal Church and the ALS Association of San Antonio, Texas.
