Quilt for Class of 1957

Talent is abundant among our classmates, as is shown
below in the Quilt Art of Vickie (Ridley) Manis, Class of '57.

Vickie has been sewing since the age of 9, and comments
"Man, that was a long time ago!"

Vickie stated, "As for why DRHS and the Class of '57, are
important to me, well, I guess we were a little family, all
closer than just friends. We were all welcome in each
others' homes, and made to feel we were important to our
parents and others as well. We did things together and
never really did do anything we were ashamed of. We could
rely on each other for anything. We all appreciated what
we had, and what our parents had done for us…back then
a little was a whole bunch to us. We all got a good
education, and I think all of us did good at whatever we set
our goals on and went forward. We are all still close even
though there are many miles between us, but our hearts
still love that good Old Building and memories down on
Griner Street."

UT Quilt

The UT Quilt holds a special interest to Vickie and her son,
who graduated from UT in 1986. This son built her a 12x20'
shop, bought her a quilting setup and machine. While her
oldest son and husband finished the inside, her #2 son
built her a beautiful porch and rock patio.

Vickie has been with the current Del Rio High School  as
attendance secretary, for 28 years and states, "I tell
everybody that it's the annex to the Real Del Rio High
School!"
