Cecilia “Bebe” Chavez Antu, Class of 1949

Cecilia “Bebe” Chavez Antu entered into eternal rest on June 16, 2010. Cecilia was born in Del Rio, Texas to Milquides Chavez and Guadalupe Gonzalez Chavez.

Preceding her in death was her beloved husband of 40 years, Filiberto “Beto” Antu; her parents; sister Chita Burrola; brothers Jose “Pipe” Chavez and Carlos Chavez.

She was a proud graduate of Del Rio High School class of 1949. She worked for Tim B. Cobb’s Hardware and Sporting Goods store for 13 years. She then met and married Beto Antu and traveled abroad for many years before returning to Del Rio in 1975. She held jobs at the Star Store and K-mart. She devoted the remainder of her life to her children, husband, and grandchildren. After Beto’s retirement, they spent the rest of their lives traveling together across the United States. Cecilia will be remembered as a loving mother, wonderful friend, a devoted wife, avid traveler and a great cook. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her twin daughters Carmen Dolores Antu and Anna Cecilia Antu Monetti and her husband Thomas Monetti; her grandchildren, Sophia Marie, Mateo Nicholai, Isabella Ada, Gian Carlos, and Raphael Luciano Monetti; her sisters-in-law Alicia Chavez and Gregoria Chavez; brother-in-law Joe G. Antu and wife Rosalinda; brother-in-law Calixtro Antu; her dearest cousin Sonia Sanchez; numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be James Fernandez, Arturo Fernandez, Thomas Monetti, Joe Antu, Reynaldo Sanchez, Robert Charles and Charlie Martinez.

The Antu family would like to thank the Jesus “Chuy” Fernandez Family, Robert Fernandez Family, Mike Fernandez Family, Arturo Fernandez Family, Lionel Martinez Family, Juan “ Red” Longoria Family, Reynaldo Sanchez Family and our neighbors; the Vicente Cantu Family, the Thomas Marr Family, and the Flores Families for the many years of friendship and kindness they shared with our mother.

Visitations on Sunday, June 20, 2010, 5-8:00P.M, at G. W. Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary Vigil at 7:00P.M presided by Antonia Fernandez and Viola Martinez.

Funeral service will be Monday, June 21, 2010, 9:30 A.M, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Camacho officiating. Interment will follow at San Felipe Cemetery. In lieu of usual remembrances, the family is requesting donations be made to the Val Verde County library.
