D. A. Herrington, Jr.

D. A. Herrington, Jr., passed away peacefully at home on October 26, 2007 at the age of 82. He was born to D. A. and Pearl Herrington on September 3, 1925 in San Angelo, Texas. The family relocated to Del Rio when D. A. was a small child.

Upon graduation from Del Rio High School in 1943, D. A. joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a radar specialist on the USS Oklawaha in the South Pacific. He attended Texas A&M University, where he earned a degree in Agricultural Economics. While a student at A&M, he married Bette Sweet. D. A. retired as President of the Del Rio National Bank in 1989.

He was a long-standing member of the Presbyterian Church, having served in numerous capacities, includeing deacon, elder and Sunday school superintendent. After serving as coach and manager of many Little League teams over the years, D.A. took his team to the World Series in 1962. D. A. was preceded in death by his parents.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 59 years, Bette Herrington; his son and daughter-in-law: Larry and Fern Herrington; daughter and son-in-law: Carole and Paul Mitchell; grandson Andy Mitchell; granddaughter: Stacy King; granddaughter and grand-son-in-law; Robbin and Billy Miller; and great-grandson: Hadley Miller. Also left behind are many cherished friends.

A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, October 30th, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Dan Snider officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Westlawn Cemetery.
