Donna Sue Davenport (Class of 1964) Obituary

Dr. Donna Sue Davenport, 76, of Georgetown, Texas left this world October 8, 2022 on her next travel adventure.

Donna was born July 29, 1946. Because her father was a high school principal in several towns across Texas, she lived all over the state.  She attended Del Rio High School and graduated in 1964.  After earning her Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctor’s Degrees from the University of Texas in Austin, she taught Counseling Psychology to graduate students at Texas A&M for 20 years and maintained a private practice for 40 years. Her special teaching skills earned her many awards from Texas A&M University and the American Psychological Association.

The greatest day of her life was when she met husband, James Butler, on Match.com; they shared 14 loving years together. Together, they traveled around the globe to London, Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, and Athens, as well as many places in the U.S.

Donna was smart, kind, and feisty, but always cared about others above herself and helped needy people as much as possible.  She taught her students to live with integrity, dignity, compassion, and to always follow the truth. She was involved in numerous organizations such as American Psychological Association, American Civil Liberties Union, and Planned Parenthood. Donna was very spiritual and was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Bryan, Texas. She was also a passionate Liberal, doing all she could to fight for Democracy and America.

Donna is survived by her husband, James Butler of Georgetown, Texas; son, Wes Symonds of Austin, Texas; brother Everard Davenport and wife Kay of Austin, Texas; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to acknowledge the following special people: Nancy Algert and Kenita Rogers of Wimberley, Texas, Michele Merkle of Pennsylvania, and many friends and colleagues in Williamsburg, Virginia.
