George Ridgway, Class of 1958

 
George A. Ridgway, age 71, entered into rest on March 7, 2012 following a battle with COPD and its various complications. He was born May 8, 1940, in the city of Del Rio, TX, to the late Fred W. Ridgway and to Lonnie E. Ridgway, who is currently 98. He attended Del Rio Junior High and graduated from Del Rio High School in 1958. On October 1959 George enlisted in the Navy and served his country for four years until his Honorable Discharge on October 1963.

On June 21, 1968, George was married to Olga C. Martin in Del Rio, TX. Their union produced one child, a daughter named Michele. His occupation as a welder took him and his family to various locations around the state and country, until they settled down in Bay City, TX in December of 1976. George then relocated to Del Rio, TX, following his divorce in 1994. He retired from welding in 1996 and remained in Del Rio.

George is survived by his mother, Lonnie Ridgway of Del Rio, Tx, his daughter and son-in-law Michele L. Graham and David W. Graham of San Marcos, TX; two grandchildren Hunter and Avery Graham of San Marcos, TX; two sisters, Barbara Gregory of Waldorf, MD and Gloria McGonnagill of Crane, TX; three brothers, Gary Ridgway of Del Rio, TX, Walter Ridgway of Del Rio, TX, and Fred (Buddy) C. Ridgway of Richmond, Va He is further survived by his ex-wife, Olga M. Ridgway, and by nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Gentlemen with the honor of pallbearers: Walter Ridgway, Gary Ridgway, Bobby Calderon, Troy McGonnagill, Walter D. McGonnagill, John Honeycutt.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 12, 2012 from 12:00pm till 2:00pm at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.

Chapel Service will be held on Monday, March 12, 2012 at 2:00pm at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.

Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery. Military honors will conducted by the U.S. Navy and American Legion Post #595.

The family wishes to sincerely thank Bobby Calderon of Del Rio, TX, as well as all the wonderful caretakers and Hospice workers who cared so wonderfully for George during his last days at home.
