Ida Jo Brien, Class of 1945

 

Ida Jo Brien September 12, 1928 - September 22, 2008 passed away
on September 22nd at the age of 80. She was born to Vernon and
Eunice Call on September 12, 1928 in Laredo, Texas. She is survived
by her son Courtney Brien and wife, Cindy of Houston, her grandson
Trevor Hill and wife, Christy of Del Rio, grandaughter, Natalie
Hill, San Antonio, great-grandsons Ricky, Tyler and Trevor Hill, Del
Rio, other relatives and good friends. Ida Jo was preceded in death by
her parents, loving husband of over 52 years, Fred Brien, her sister Liz
Sanders, her daughter Becky Hill and her grandson, Taylor Hill.

Ida Jo moved to Del Rio as a young child and was raised and attended
Del Rio schools. She received a BBA degree from the University of
Texas at Austin where she was a member of the Delta Gamma society
and met and fell in love with her husband, Fred. In addition to raising a
family, Ida Jo was a longtime teacher of Vocational Office Education
in the Del Rio school system, where she helped many students
prepare for their future lives and careers. Known as Lita to her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ida Jo was a loving wife,
mother and friend and will be missed by all.

She was active in the Methodist church, served on the board of
the San Felipe Country Club, was a longtime member of Fine Arts and
helped plan and enjoyed the many reunioins of the Class of 1945 from
Del Rio High School.

Ida Jo moved to San Antonio with Fred in early 2001 and resided
at Homewood Residence in Shavano Park. The family would
like to thank all the staff and caregivers at Homewood for the
many years of love and support they provided. They would also
like to thank friend, classmate and family physician, Dr. Raymond
Harle, along with Dr. Randall C. Bell for their care over the years.

A Chapel Service celebration will be held on Wednesday, 1:00PM
September 24, 2008 at G. W. Cox Funderal Home Chapel
followed with interment at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
Officiating will be Reverend Richard Young and Deacon Robert Kusen-
burger.

Viewing will be prior to Chapel service starting at 9:00AM.
