John Dissler, Class of 1949

John McFaddin Dissler, 79, died Monday May 31, 2010 at a local hospital surrounded by his family.

John was born in Del Rio, Texas on February 10, 1931 to John and Nellie McFaddin Dissler. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Dorothy Bell Grissom. He graduated from Del Rio High School in 1949 and attended Sul Ross State University. He was a member of Val Verde Masonic Lodge #646.

John ranched for many years in the Juno, TX area. He was a pilot involved in predator abatement until 1974. He was an avid racehorse fan and owned many Thoroughbreds over the years in Louisiana and New Mexico.

John was well-known for his ability to tell stories about local history and characters. His refusal to give up when times got rough was an inspiration to everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his children: Randel Dissler and wife Carol, Clay Dissler and wife Regina, Elaine Coggins and husband Toby, Peggy Morris and husband Joe, all of Del Rio; Kathy Lindley of Austin, TX, Bill Gilliam of Quihi, TX, and Sam Gilliam and wife Carla of Sabinal, TX. His grandchildren are: Erin and Henry Dissler, Jesse Lindley, Tyler Dissler, Toby and Bess Coggins, Kristina Powell and husband Mike, Stephanie Simpson, Shelly Gilliam, Tish Kondrich and Christopher Gilliam. He also has multiple great grandchildren.

The Dissler family would like to thank all of John’s healthcare providers at Val Verde Regional Medical Center, Visiting Nurses, Doctors Abbot, Lindsey and Sanchez, and especially his good friend and caregiver Aurora.

Graveside services will be performed by the Val Verde Masonic Lodge Saturday June 5, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Masonic Cemetery in Del Rio, TX. Everyone is invited to lunch following the service.
