LAWRENCE WOLFORD SEEGER

Lawrence W. Seeger of Austin, Texas, passed away on August 15, 2014 after a short battle with cancer.  He was 86.  Lawrence was born January 24, 1928, in McKinney, Texas to Ed and Bera Seeger.   Lawrence has one surviving sibling Billy Seeger and four surviving cousins including Jane Casiraghi, Billy John McNamara, Pat McNamara, Jerry McNamara and Mike McNamara.   Siblings and cousins preceding him in death include George Seeger, Mary Ann McMahon, Rhea Fernandes, and Julius Seeger.  Many wonderful nieces and nephews and second cousins adore Lawrence as well.

Lawrence was a 1945 graduate of Del Rio High School.  He then worked in the Seeger Family Bakery and with the Austin Police Department.  He later worked as a houseparent at the Texas School for the Deaf while attending The University of Texas where he became a lifelong Longhorn fan.  He moved to Wilson, North Carolina in 1965and taught at the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf for 28 years, retiring in 1993.  After retiring from ENCSD, Lawrence returned to Austin.

Lawrence was one of those people who touched the lives of many people with his gentle kindness.  He was a wonderful friend, a beloved family member, and a wise listener who provided encouragement and support for all.  All of his friends and family members benefitted from his presence and we all will continue to carry the wisdom he shared with us through the years.

Lawrence always had a zest for life and loved to travel to visit relatives and friends, to see new places and to return to Del Rio every year with the “Old Geezers Group.”  He had an avid interest in genealogy and was proud to be a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Sons of the Republic of Texas.  He also stayed in touch regularly with literally hundreds of relatives and friends through telephone calls and social media.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf - Parent Staff Organization (ENCSD-PSO) located at 1311 US 301, Wilson, NC  27893 with the mission of promoting excellence at the school.

Congress on Sunday, August 24, 2014 with a 3-4 pm Gathering of Family and Friends, a 4-5 pm Memorial Service.  Final burial will be Monday, August 25th, at 10:00 am at Austin Memorial Park.   As any faithful Texas Longhorn would say, “Come Early, Be Loud, Stay Late, Wear Orange!”

We will miss Lawrence but he will continue in our hearts forever!
