Leon Douglas Walton (1945) Obituary

 

 

Leon Douglas Walton of Uvalde passed away on April 9, 2014 in Uvalde Memorial Hospital at the age of 86. He was born on Sep 22, 1927 in Abilene, TX  to Rector and Annie (Brashier) Walton. His family moved to Del Rio when he was two years old. He grew up there and graduated from Del Rio High School in 1945. He then attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX and graduated in 1949. He coached and taught Science for four years. He married Lylian Ballinger in Council Bluff, IA on December 24, 1950. They moved to their farm on Hacienda Road in 1952 and stayed there the rest of their lives. Lylian preceded him in death in 1984. He was a Deacon at the First Baptist Church in Uvalde.  He is survived by a son-in-law Jeff Kurtz and wife, Linda of Plano, TX; two grandsons, Jonathan Kurtz and Stephen Kurtz; two nephews, Jack Walton and Richard “Dick” Walton; two great-nephews, Richard Walton and Brad Walton; and great-niece Kristin Walton. He was preceded in death by parents; wife; daughter, Susan Kurtz; and brother Rector Walton, Jr.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 12th, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church with burial to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Rev. Homer Hanna will officiate assisted by Rev. Lonnie Moore and Rev. Jim Jackson. Pallbearers will be R.B. “Bob” Willoughby, Jr.; Art Sutton; Robert “Bob” Zaiglin; Bill McWhorter; Bill Holloway; and Tim Reed. Honorary pallbearers will be Todo Myane and Ed O’Neal.
