Mary Louise Forester Clawson, Class of 1944

 
Mary Louise Forester Clawson, wife of Senior District Judge James F. Clawson Jr., died November 6, 2012, at her home in Temple following a short illness. She was 85 years old.

Funeral services will be at 10 am. Saturday, November 10 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with the Rev. David Alwine officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, November 9 at the funeral home. Family burial will take place at Flint Creek Cemetery at The Grove.

She was born August 20, 1927, in Del Rio, Texas, to Freeman Rogers Forester and Violet Jesse Wilson Forester. She attended school in Del Rio, graduating in May 1944. After graduation, she was employed at the Del Rio National Bank. She met J.F. Clawson when he was stationed near Del Rio as an officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps; they were married on May 4, 1945, in Vernon, Texas and celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in 2012.

The couple lived in Vernon, Waco, and Houston during the early years of their marriage. In Waco, Mrs. Clawson attended 4C Business College in Waco and was employed at Citizens National Bank. She also worked as a fashion model and at East End State Bank in Houston. After her husband was recalled into the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, she spent approximately one year with him in England.
After moving to Temple in 1959, Mrs. Clawson became a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Temple and was very active in church and community affairs, including the Episcopal Church Women of Christ Episcopal Church, Nan Brown Garden Club, Temple Service League, Scott and White Women’s Auxiliary, Girl Scouts, and PTA at Jefferson Elementary School and Lamar Junior High School. She served as president of Triple C Realty Corporation for many years, overseeing rental properties and maintaining the company’s financial records.

She is survived by her husband; her daughters, Marylou Clawson Bowen and Cathy Jo Clawson Young, both of Temple; her grandchildren, Libby Bowen of Austin, Texas; Kristiane Young of Lexington Park, Maryland; Hannah Bowen of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Sallie Bowen of Denton, Texas; and Alexandra Young of Lubbock, Texas; her great-grandson, Aidan Plank of Temple; and her brother, Jesse R. Forester, and his wife, Dorothy Crow Forester, of Temple. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Ray Clawson, and his wife, Joy Clawson, of Moffat; her sister-in-law, Nova Clawson Festervan of San Marcos, Texas; and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family.

John Clawson of Gatesville will provide the funeral eulogy and music will be provided by Gina and Eugene Winkler of Westlake, Louisiana, and Lee Festervan of San Marcos, Texas. Many of Mrs. Clawson’s nephews and great-nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to the Christ Church of Temple building fund, McLane Childrens Hospital Scott and White; and the Jim and Mary Clawson scholarship fund at Baylor Law School.
