Nancy Jean Pearson Newman, Class of '53

Nancy Jean Pearson Newman, a long-time resident of Miami, Florida, died on December 14, 2012, at the age of 77. Born on March 17, 1935, in North Carolina, Nancy was raised in Del Rio, Texas. She attended the University of Texas, and was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

Married to Edward (Eddy) Newman in 1956, Nancy was a loving wife and mother of three children. She lived with her family in Nassau, Bahamas, before moving to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1972, and settling in Miami in 1974. Nancy lived in South Florida for more than 30 years, both in Miami, and briefly in Sewall’s Point from 2002 to 2005. A successful real estate broker, Nancy loved cooking, sailing, drawing and painting. She also enjoyed socializing and hosting parties for family and friends, and had a quick wit and a laugh that could light up a room. A down-to-earth “Yellow Rose of Texas” at heart, Nancy liked skiing and traveling with her husband and friends. She was a compassionate friend to many, and enjoyed tennis, swimming, tending to her orchids, and spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren.

Nancy battled a long fight with Alzheimer’s disease. She is survived by her husband, Eddy, her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Chris, her daughter and son-in-law, Stacey (Amber) and Rolf, her son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Carolina, and eight grandchildren: Ryan, Jonathan, Kelly Anne, Trevor, Spencer, Baker, Sophie and Chippy, many of whom brought great joy to her later years.  She is also survived by two younger sisters and brothers-in-law; Carolyn and Gerry, and Virginia (Billie) and Hal.
