Roger Green, Class of 1970

Roger Wayne Green, age 59, met his heavenly Father on Wednesday October 12, 2011 in San Antonio, Texas. Roger was, first and foremost, a man of God. Having served the Lord for 33 years, he lived a life of God-filled purpose. Roger was a remarkable man who unconditionally loved his family. He cherished his wife, Karol, whom he was married to for 40 precious years. He was a proud father whose greatest accomplishments were his children, Kacy and Jake. He was a friend who saw no flaws, a sweet and gentle man with a servant's heart. He lived everyday with a twinkle in his eye, a ‘something up his sleeve' smile, and good-time attitude. He knew how to love and he did. We are grateful to have been a part of such a beautiful life.

Roger was born on March 19, 1952 in Del Rio, Texas to Jack and Jackie Green. He was a dedicated locomotive engineer with Southern/Union Pacific Railroad for 34 years, having lived in Del Rio, Beaumont, El Paso, and San Antonio, Texas. He served as Associate Pastor at Grace Community Church in Del Rio, Texas. Roger had a passion for working with young married couples and dedicated much of his time to Christian counseling and mentoring. He served on the San Felipe-Del Rio School Board and held other various leadership positions at work and in the community. He also stayed active in his children's lives and various hobbies such as coaching baseball teams, running booster clubs, family ski trips, taking long runs, enjoying the Texas hill country, and many more.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Roland Green. Roger is survived by his wife, Karol Kercheville Green of New Braunfels, Texas; daughter, Kacy Green Hassack and husband, Brad of Austin, Texas; son, Jacob "Jake" Ryan Green and wife, Maryl currently residing in Singapore; mother Jackie Louise Green; grandchildren, Turner Caroline Hassack, Gus Harwell Green, and Perry Louise Green (due in Nov); brothers, Walter "Bott" and wife Lori and Jack Russell Green. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 15, 2011, at Porter Loring Mortuary North Chapel.
