Susie (Wardlaw) Earwood
Susie Earwood, age 84, of Del Rio passed away peacefully
Thursday, July 24, 2008 at Sagecrest Talley House in San Angelo.
Susie was born April 2, 1924 to L. B. "Cooter" and Leska
Wardlaw in Del Rio. She graduated from Del Rio High School. She
received her Bachelor of Science degree in bio-chemistry from
Incarnate Word College in San Antonio. Her first teaching job was
in McCamey followed by a school on Son Whitehead's ranch.
After marrying Clyde Earwood on June 29, 1948, they made their
home on a family ranch in Kinney County. She made baby booties
for Frost Bros. and was dedicated to ranching during the 1950's
drought and throughout her life. She had a love for horses and the
land. Susie returned to the teaching profession in Bracket-
ville in 1955 and continued until her retirement in Del Rio.
Susie was active in the First Presdyterian Church.She arrang-
ed alter flowers after her mother could no longer do them. She had
a love for plants and shared their beauty with everyone. Susie was
not a joiner, but helped everyone in the family with their pro-
jects many times helping them win a reward in their name and
being just as proud as if her name was attached.
She was preceeded in death by her parents and her brother,
L. B. "Bus" Wardlaw, Jr.
Susie is survived by her husband, Clyde of 60 years. A
daughter, Cindy Earwood Whitehead of Brackettville; a grand-
daughter Cody Whitehead Gruenwald and husband Michael
of Del Rio. Also surviving are nephews and niece Watt Ward-
law, L. B. Wardlaw, III and Denise Truitt. Also Maria Theresa
Diaz, a wonderful friend and caregiver.
