Thomas McKinley ‘Hiram’ Johnson Jr.
 
Hiram Johnson passed away January 5, 2008 at home in Del Rio. He was born in Del Rio, Texas on August 10, 1932 and graduated from Del Rio High School in 1949. He then continued on to the University of Texas and received his diploma from Pharmacy School in May of 1954. He was a Life Member of the Texas Exes and attended all of the Austin Longhorn football games and supported them very vocally and enthusiastically.
 
Survivors are his wife of 57 years Betty Joyce Johnson; son: Thomas McKinley Johnson III and wife Sally Towery Johnson of Boston, MA; two granddaughters: Pamela K. Johnson of Austin, TX and Tanya Christine and husband John Reynolds of Boston, MA; one great grandson: Andrew McKinley Johnson of Austin, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by his father: Dr. Thomas McKinley Johnson; mother: Bernice K. Johnson; daughter: Cynthia Lou Johnson; and sister: Mary Lou Johnson Danahy.
 
Hiram purchased the Del Rio Pharmacy in 1955 and shared ownership with Paul Halamicek. He sold his share to Paul and built The Apothecary. After selling The Apothecary he worked as a relief pharmacist in a number of pharmacies in the area until his retirement. When not working he was an avid golfer.
 
He will be missed by his family, friends, "bar buddies", and customers of his pharmacies. The family extends their gratitude and appreciation to the caregivers of Hospice of Del Rio.
 
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 2:00P.M, at Westlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Del Rio or the charity of your choice.
