Update for George Bales Whitehead (Class of 1954) Obituary

 

George Bales Whitehead, retired Del Rio rancher and entrepreneur, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2020 at the age of 85 while in hospice care in San Antonio.  He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Edwina Edwards Whitehead, three children, a granddaughter, a grandson and a great-granddaughter.  

George was born and grew up in Del Rio, TX where he and his brother, Will F., operated the family ranch in Val Verde County.  He was a Rotarian and proud of being a United States Marine.  Prior to relocating to San Antonio to 1989, George owned and operated M and W Construction Co. for 26 years and built numerous homes, schools and commercial properties in Del Rio.    

George loved flying.  He was licensed in fixed wing aircraft and helicopter and was rated in both VFR and IFR.  He enjoyed flying to the ranch and even rounded up livestock with his helicopter.  He had many adventures in his planes. 

Memorial services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bulverde on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. and at St. James Episcopal Church in Del Rio on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. while observing Covid-19 rules.
