William spent 4 years in the Navy after High School. He then worked as Sports Editor for the Del Rio News-Herald for a short period. In August 1971 he went to work as a signalman for the Southern Pacific Railroad in Ennis, TX. The name changed to Union Pacific Railroad and he retired in about 2000.
He moved to Van, TX in March of 2019 to be near his son and passed away in a Tyler, TX hospital on October 19, 2021.
