Lovers Lane revisited!

Several Alumni have asked that we post the “she/he said comments” on the site that were generated from ‘your’ Wildcat site as email, prior to the Reunion.

Oh, by the way some, well probably all of the below comments are adlibbed.

As previously noted Gary Humphreys, Class of 1964 and Edwina (Edwards) Whitehead, Class of 1961 picked the Lovers Lane house the first day. Gary lives next door to the house and Edwina lived nearby, for years. Because we were having so much fun using “She/he said” that we didn’t agree with them, until right before the Reunion.

10-11-09 Darleen (Yoas) Murphey, Class of ’64 “My husband and I were having so much fun with all of the Reunion activities that the few minutes we had to go see the Lovers Lane house, kept getting detoured in discovery of our own Lovers Lane! Want’a guess where?”

7-29-09 Wow! Talk about a photo of interest to Alumni it is the Lovers Lane photo!

Gary Humphreys, Class of '64, better known as Beak has been driving around Del Rio taking photos, sending them to us, along with numerous emails seeking clarification he’s still wrong and to think that he sets on the Val Verde Historical Commission Board ha

Bee Ingalls, Class of '49 sent a request to at least tell her what the street is referred to today when we didn’t then she sent a demand “Tell me!” Then in her infinite wisdom she decided we did not know where Lovers Lane was, or the home and wisely referred us to the County Clerks Office to look at old maps.

By far the most innovative is Michael Kyle, Class of ‘67. Ole Michael doesn’t worry about the fact he is hundreds of miles from Del Rio, nope no way he is using Google Earth to search Del Rio streets. First he said it was the Gin on Pecan Street, then this house and that house, with baiting emails of: “Is it on the Creek? Is it by the RR tracks he’s still wrong ha.

8-03-09 Oh Wow! This Lovers Lane saga is getting interesting!

Sally (Phillips) James, Class of 1967 "I knew I wasn't right the first time!" (Yaahoo! An honest female!) "This is more fun than a game show!!!! I think it's out by LAFB." (Uh well..yeah we guess the sound of jets flying over could send people into orbit!)

Rhonda (Morgan-Kyle) Lipesto, Class of 1967 "Del Rio had a Lovers Lane?" (Uh I'm at a loss for words let me ponder a response)

Pat Dugan, Class of 1964 "I have no clue." (Honesty! well so much for the knowledge of a Combat Recon Marine)

Carl Chambers, Class of 1962 "The girls showed us big time Football Jocks, like me, where Lovers Lane was! I think the house is.."  (At least you picked a house that had two chimneys, but look at the photo again; the chimney on the photo you sent is facing the other way.)

Wynn Anderson, Class of 1965 "I need to relocate my black and white 1955 Chevy it knew exactly where that house and Lovers Lane was!" (Use the attributes you gained to achieve Eagle Scout you are not vintage yet!)

Ray Elledge, Class of 1963 "There used to be a lot of activity and, well refuse, left on Bolner Lane, which I think used to be Lovers Lane.I remember 'cause my Dad patrolled that area as a Deputy Sheriff, except when I was there." (Uh it helps to have connections in Law Enforcement!)

Bubba Tidwell, Class of 1964 "Who had time to think of a Lovers Lane when I was at Church or Bible study at least eleven times a week during High School." (Uh Tidwell we probably need confirmation on that from your sisters)

Jimmy Bradley, Class of 1961  "I'm in the Philippines and there is a house here that looks just like that, with females on the street!" (You’re worse than McNair! Focus on Del Rio, besides you told us the same thing when you were in Chili last week)

Ted Luce, Class of 1957 "I think Lovers Lane was Mud Creek Road. They must have moved the house back to town." (And we thought you spent all of your time herding sheep during High School...uh on second thought you didn't date your ewes did ya? Ha)

Bee Ingalls, Class of 1942 "You are going to drive me to having a wild party and drinking!" (Save it for the Reunion Bee you'll fit right in with Jim Cauthorn and the rest of that wild crowd we already have a corner reserved for ya'll speaking of parties you must be kin to Robert Brockwell)

Jim Cauthorn, Class of 1958 "After remembering those Wild parties Hank used to have, at the house I think it was - I'm ready for the Reunion!" (Yeehaw! We have a corner reserved for your group!)

Cindy (Earwood) Whitehead, Class of 1967 (rumor has it she has been seen on Eagle Pass Hill, with binoculars scanning the horizon for the home or something she lost?)

Bob Haas, Class of 1967 "As an employee of the US Postal Service, for 30 years, I know everything." (Ok tell us if a 1¢ stamp in 1909 vs. a 44¢ today has equal value)

Pam (Lowe) Laine, Class of 1969 "69! 69! 69! Got it!" (Ok! Ok! Ok! We got it! '69, not '67 Tell us more of where Lovers Lane was in '69 and where was it in 1909? Maybe you should consult with your sister Pat she's almost vintage! ha)

Candy (Block) Graf, Class of 1969 (Oh we see you graduated with Pam in '69.no wonder!)

Edwina (Edwards) Whitehead, Class of 1961 "Obviously the house I picked has been remodeled several times. I'm right!" (So a house with two perfectly functional chimneys was dismantled and replaced by one? Maybe we should consider having a poll with the question: How many times have men heard the term "I'm right!" from a lady?)

Dr. Margaret (Weatherman) Clem, Class of 1965 "Do those (like me) that know the answer get to guess?" (We anticipate the arrival of your wisdom er guess)

Vicki (Green) Hanks, Class of 1965 "I'm going to research all of the Kat Klaws I wrote to find the answer." (Ah ha the secret is out of who was the rumor mill!)

Michael Kyle, Class of 1967 "I think I'm going back into the Ministry." (Probably a good idea considering that we all need help.)

Glenda (Pope) Brown, Class of 1966 "If you (the keeper of the secret) do not provide the answer to this at the Reunion we're going to make pot roast out of you!" (I'm still not telling you so quit baiting)

Beak (Gary Humphreys), Class of 1964 "I'm using too much gas searching Del Rio. I'm going to try and rejuvenate my Moped I had in High School." (Did you date on that thing?)

Roger Hayes, Class of 1964 "Well since Mike Deaton discovered that '64 was vintage we should know." (Uh refer to Mike's updated comments)

Lee Worley, Class of 1970 "I'm going over by Roosevelt Baseball Park to check it out! Anyone else want to go?" (Thanks for the invite, but I'm married!)

James McNair, Class of 1964 "Please tell my wife that I did not go to Acuna when I attended Del Rio High!" (McNair you should of thought of that before you mentioned it to us! Hmmm we're here to help you resolve this. At the Reunion you can take the podium and ask a straight question, but no leading or baiting questions like 'Classmates please confirm, or deny that I did not go to Acuna when in High School.' Thereafter we'll open the microphone up to whomever that should help. Deal?"

Dr. Mike Deaton, Class of 1964 "I'm still trying to prove that 1964 is not vintage!" (Uh huh let us know if it works 'cause most of us need a definitive answer)

Be sure and register 'cause we don't want to miss seeing Jim Cauthorn, Bee Ingalls (the wild ones) et al in action, nor do we want to miss laying eyes on Dr Mike Deaton to see if he is vintage and certainly we don't want miss hearing from Jimmy McNair!

8-04-09 Jill Hartman (Slaughter) Class of '71 “Lover's lane is Las Vacas, and that's the old Moody house.  I'm not sure how to put it on the website, but I want someone to know that I know the answer (actually my 25 year old daughter had to tell me where the picture was)!”

8-05-09 Elizabeth Brutus, Class of '56 ”I think Lover's Lane was the Middle Loop Road off Nicholson St. to Mexico Bridge.  It is half way between Hudson Loop Road as you go to Mexico.” Hmm the 50’s group must of used the same area, as did the 60’s.

Bee Ingalls, Class of 1942 "Tell me!" (Another demanding lady)

Jim Cauthorn, Class of 1958 "I know the house 'cause Hank used to have  some wild parties there!"  (Look at the photo again and .Uh tell us more  about these wild parties)

Cindy (Earwood) Whitehead, Class of 1967 "I am not vintage enough to call (her guess) that Lovers Lane - we called Eagle Pass hill our lover's lane." (Refer to Mike Deaton's vintage comment...oh and by the way was Eagle Pass Hill paved?)

Bob Haas, Class of 1967 "I was a mailman, which makes me wise." (Your still wrong)

Candy (Block) Graf, Class of 1969 (no surprise for you)

Sally (Phillips) James, Class of 1967 "I'm 1,200 miles away but I think..." (Nope you might try Google Earth)

Edwina (Edwards) Whitehead, Class of 1961 "I know exactly where it is!" (Ha, A lady, and wife "I know." my wife uses that also. Your pick has one chimney at the front of the house, the Lovers Lane photo has two chimneys
on each end)

Michael Kyle, Class of 1967 "Then quit dancing and speak straight!! Did Beak see it? Haven't found it yet...I'll come float the creek and look for it." (Ha Beak already has floated the creek)

Glenda (Pope) Brown, Class of 1966 (she is a primary person for the site and the reunion and tries to use her power to bait information release ha)

Beak (Gary Humphreys), Class of 1964 (His first pick has now changed several times -he's still driving around town taking photos to compare) ha

Pam (Lowe) Laine, Class of 1967 “Lovers Lane is on the North side of town!” (Lovers Lane may have been on the North side of town in the 60's.but in 1909? Ha)

Roger Hayes, Class of 1964 "I Googled Lovers Lane for Del Rio and found that it is now called Hudson." (Well at least you are doing research, however if you are referring to this
http://www.southpoint.com/states/tx/delrio/villa.html .which is non-factual propaganda by the owner of the B&B ha)

Lee Worley, Class of 1970 "Its over by Roosevelt Baseball Park" (How can a couple have a peaceful session with baseball going on? Ha try again)

The two funniest ones:
James McNair, Class of 1964 (No Jimmy it is not or was not the #8 or Shamrock Club in Acuna...ha. Oh your other answer was wrong also)

Dr. Mike Deaton, Class of 1964 (Let me set up his comments: After Mike saw the photo he started searching the internet for old postcards for Del Rio) "I was sadden to learn that someone is selling a "vintage" postcard from the 60's of the Holiday Inn....what am I?...the Class of '64 is vintage???" (That brought a laugh!)

8-07-09 Dr. Margaret (Weatherman) Clem, Class of 1965: “I want to join the fun! I think it is the house…..” (Has time changed you…you used to be the instigator of the fun…well we see you still are ‘cause you are one of the driving forces for the Reunion on October 9th and 10th).

Pat (Lowe) Rogers, Class of 1965: “Now wait a minute! I was never afraid (chicken) of anything and I am not Vintage!” (Well you and Mike Deaton are only a year apart! We’ll verify this claim of y’all at the Reunion)

As of 11-03-09 the Lovers Lane saga is completed, unless y’all want to play some more! Oh by the way some of the above comments are kind of...well shall we say ad-libbed.
