The below photo was taken around 1957-’58 at Camp Fawcett, a Scout camp north of Barksdale, Texas of a group of Del Rio Girl Scouts. Some have been identified and others not yet.

Martha Kercheville Newton found a copy of this photo with the names on the back. They are Martha, Ruth Cocle or Coile, Penny Shively, Sherry Ripley, Lynda Pastor, Annette Lindsey, Cynthia Charlton, Cathy Tidwell, Judy Love, Minta Jo Schwalbe, Mary Bishop. It was July, 1958.
Neither of us remembers Ruth or Lynda.

Every girl in the picture is in the class of 1961 or 1960. Most of the girls ran around with each other and were good friends, beside being cheerleaders or twillers as Sherri was. Ellen is 2 or so years behing us. No question that is Sherri Ripley. Cathy Tidwell corrected me and told me that is her instead of Pam Livingston as I thought. Thanks to Cathy for the correction.

After looking at Ellen’s picture in the Branding Iron, I’ll have to vote for her. That brings it to 3 votes for Sherri, 3 for Ellen and one possible undecided. I wasn’t sure which way Johnny Ross was going.

I PROMISE you that the girl with the glasses IS Sherry Ripley! All those girls were in my sister Judy's class and Ellen was a bit older. It really is Sherry.

Regarding the Girl Scout picture--Jackie Jones and Annette Lindsey are correct. Most of the girls were Judy's dearest friends until she died and most came to East Texas for her funeral. They have gotten together for many years and placed a bench at the Val Verde County library to honor Judy and two other classmates who are also deceased. Wonderful friends for so many years!
