Douglas D. Burk, Jr. Class of 1946

Mr. Douglas D. Burk, Jr. died Wednesday, March 24, 2010. Mr. Burk was born in San Antonio, Texas on March 5, 1927. He was 83 years old.

Mr. Burk lived and attended school in Del Rio, Texas, graduating in 1946. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He retired from ABF in 1991. Upon his retirement he worked as chaplain for Benton PD, Bryant PD, and Saline County Sheriff’s Dept. He was supply preacher, pastor, and past treasurer of the Central Baptist Assoc. in Benton. Most importantly he was a faithful servant of the Lord, having served as pastor and supply preacher of many churches.

He is preceded in death by parents Douglas and Alleyne Burk, brothers Thomas and William Burk.

Mr. Burk leaves behind his wife of 53 years Clara “Johnnie” Burk; children Linda Eichacker, Carol Pebley, James Burk, Teresa Emmerton, Doug Burk, Chip Burk; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; sister Jane Pratt, and brothers Bobby, Jack, and Jim Burk.

Visitation will be Friday, March 26, 2010 at Roller-Ballard Funeral Home in Benton (501-315-4047) from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.

Celebration of life memorial service will be held at New Life Baptist Church, 10765 Samples Road in the Avilla/Salem Community on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 11:00 A.M.
