Jack Duke, Jr., Class of 1944

 

Jack Leland Duke, Jr., 83, passed away on July 9, 2011, in Houston, Texas. He was born November 29, 1927, to Mary Louise Craig Duke and Jack Leland Duke, Sr., in Houston, Texas.

Jack was preceded in death by both of his parents and his son, Jack Leland Duke III.

He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Roberta (Bobbi) Duke; daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Randal Hendricks, of Houston, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Ann Duke, of Katy, Texas; daughter, Janene Duke, of San Antonio, Texas; Daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Trevor Dodd, of Boerne, Texas; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Duke; sister, Marianne Remschel, of Kerrville, Texas; brother, Craig Duke, of Rowlett, Texas; step-daughter, Christine Farrell, of Katy, Texas; step-son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Jeri Pigeon; fourteen grandchildren, Bret Larson-Hendricks and wife Rebecca, Charlie Duke and wife Brooke, Aaron Duke, Josh Duke, Jessica Spitzer and husband Connor, Melissa Duke, Diana Duke, Amy Farrell, Kelly Farrell, Abbey Sawdon, Ethan Sawdon, Olivia Dodd, Maxwell Mueller and Ellen Pigeon; two great-grandchildren, Anders Larson-Hendricks and Charles William Duke III; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack was a graduate of Del Rio High School in Del Rio, Texas, Class of 1944, and was the President of his graduating class. He later attended Texas A&I University, Kingsville, Texas and graduated Summa Cum Laude, Class of 1951.

Jack worked as a successful businessman with Fluor E&C and Brown & Root and then retired after 18 years as the Vice President with Duke Glass. He was certified as a Professional Engineer in 1955 and also was a member of Kingsland Baptist Church.

A Memorial Service will take place at Kingsland Baptist Church, 20555 Kingsland Blvd., Katy, Texas, 77450, on Friday, July 15, 2011, at 2:00 p.m.
