Milton Woolf (Class of 1943) Obituary

 

With heavy hearts, at the age of 93, we announce the death of Milton Woolf (Uvalde,Texas), who passed away on January 13, 2020. 

 

After months of failing health, he died peacefully at home in Uvalde,Texas with his beloved wife Jerri, other family and his treasured pet dogs baby and coco by his side. He was born to Fred and Ida Woolf on April 8, 1926 in Del Rio, TX where he was raised on the family farm. As a boy and a young man learned the value of having to work hard by taking on several jobs including a paper route, movie theater projectionist and funeral home attendant to support  his family. He joined the United States Navy in 1944 and spent his enlistment stationed in and around the Philippine island area until the end of World War 2. After discharge from the Navy he returned home to Del Rio. In the fall of 1946, he was one of the first group of students to register and attend classes at the newly opened Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde. He would soon meet the love of his life Jerri Willis of Uvalde. They married on 8-16-1947 and made their home in Uvalde. They spent the next 72 years together happily and raised two children, Jo Beth and Roger.  Milton owned and operated Woolf Electric services where he spent the rest of his life working as an electrical contractor and serving his community as a 70-year member of the Uvalde Masonic Lodge, a life member of the Shriners and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls  . He was also a founding member of Baptist Temple Church and enjoyed many,many years of membership as a member of the Uvalde Honey Bee Square dance club.

He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Ida Woolf and an older brother Russell of Del Rio, TX and daughter in law Julie Woolf of Uvalde, TX. He is survived by his wife Jerri of Uvalde, daughter and son in law Jo Beth and Jerome Warren, son Roger Woolf of Uvalde, TX and 4 grandchildren and their spouses David and Brandy Warren of Lexington, TX, Jason and Lauren Woolf of Marion, TX, Brian Woolf of Uvalde, TX and Cari and Cory Dugan of Arlington, TX along with numerous great grandchildren who he loved to take for lawnmower rides around the yard at his residence, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and good friends.

He was passionate about his family, the masonic lodge and tending to the fruit trees and grape vines he grew in his backyard. He enjoyed sitting on his back porch and watching his cows and deer and other wildlife. He also loved spending time hunting and fishing because the phone didn’t ring in the outdoors.

Family and friends may pay their respects at Rushing Estes Knowles Funeral Home, 220 S Getty St, Uvalde, TX 78801 on Wednesday 1-15-2020 from 2 pm through 8 pm .

Funeral services will be held at Baptist Temple Church 620 E. Main Street, Uvalde TX 78801  on 1-16-2020 at 10:00 am with graveside services following at the Masonic Cemetery, end of West Second Street, Del Rio, Texas at 3:00 pm. The family  requests that any memorial contributions be given to the Uvalde Masonic Lodge or Baptist Temple Church.

 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 15th 2020 from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary (220 S Getty St, Uvalde, TX). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 16th 2020 at 10:00 AM at the Baptist Temple Church (620 E Main St, Uvalde, TX).
