A funeral service for Nathaniel (Nat) Stephen Qualia, Jr., 87, of Rosenberg, Texas, formerly of Corpus Christi, was held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Interment followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.
Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2013 in the State Room of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg.
Nat was born August 1, 1925 in Del Rio to Chris and Rose (Tagliabue) Qualia. He graduated from Del Rio High School in 1942 and served in the U.S Army on the Philippine Islands as Tech Sergeant in WWII. Nat married Kathleen Keeble in 1950. He graduated from A & I with an Agriculture degree and earned a Masters at Texas A & M. He was employed by Premont High School and Flour Bluff High School as an F.F.A. and shop teacher. He also served as a Vocational Director and Principal at the Elementary and Jr. High. He retired at the age of 60, in 1984. Nat was a volunteer firefighter for Flour Bluff, was a member of the Premont Lion’s Club, served as president for Alpha Chi and belonged to various organizations dealing with education. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and sailing and crafting rifles and knives. If you were to describe Nat’s personality it would be a hard working, patriotic, with a wonderful sense of humor, and these were just a few of his best traits. Nat lived in Corpus Christi for 59 1/2 years and recently moved to Rosenberg 3 months ago. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 20, 2013.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Rose Qualia and his sister, Genevieve Qualia, all of Del Rio.
Nat is survived by his loving wife of 62 1/2 years, Kathleen Keeble Qualia; children, N. Steve Qualia, III and wife, Jan, of Corpus Christi, Susan Clayton and husband, Greg, of Atlanta, GA, John K. Qualia and wife, Cyndy, of Friendswood and Jean DeGregorio and husband, Steve, of Rosenberg; grandchildren, Jennifer and Rose Qualia, Pam Clayton, Christine Tanko, Kyle and Missy Qualia, Rob, Matt and Allison Linder, Steven and Nicole DeGregorio, and great-grandchildren, Zack and Deven Pierce, Emmah Bockholt and Nico Barr; along with other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers that served were Steve Qualia, John Qualia, Kyle Qualia, Steve DeGregorio, Frank Miller and Bobby Miller.
