Neal Billings, Class of 1961

Note: Neal is a 1961 graduate of Comstock, but was well known and respected by many Del Rio Alumni.

Neal Billings, 68, passed away January 16, 2011 in San Antonio, Texas.
He was born October 6, 1942 in Del Rio, Texas to Neal and Josephine Billings who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife Eddie Jean Wurz Billings; daughter: J.J. Thompson and her husband Danny of Comstock, Texas; son: Neal Jr., and his wife Angela of Langtry, Texas; grandchildren: Dylan Langtry Thompson, Caden Mylis Thompson, Hailey Marie Billings and Neal Edward Billings; sisters: Vi B. Cloud of Marble Falls, Texas, June B. Burk and husband Bobby of Del Rio, Mary Lou B. Petty of Midland, Texas and Ginger and husband Jerry Marshall of Fayetteville, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
 
Mr. Billings a native of Langtry attended Texas A & I and Sul Ross Colleges majoring in Veterinary Medicine. He was employed as manager of the Winters Ranch Company, out of Del Rio until 1987 when he was employed by Texas Department of Transportation serving as supervisor of Judge Roy Bean Visitor Center for twenty years. He married Eddie Jean in 1966 in Houston, Texas.
The House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature honored him for his exceptional tenure with the Judge Roy Bean Center.
He joined the U. S. Army in 1967 serving two years in Vietnam until being wounded in combat. 

Neal has served on the Board of Directors of the Langtry Community Center since 1972, on the Board of Directors of the Langtry Water System since 1985, and served on the Comstock School Board from 1977 to 1998. He has also served as a member of the Big Bend Area Travel Association since 1987.
Visitations will be on Tuesday, 6-9:00P.M, January 18, 2011 at G. W. Cox Memorial Funeral Home.

Chapel service will be on Wednesday, 2:00P.M, January 19, 2011. Interment will follow at Westlawn Cemetery.

Officiating will be Dr. Phil Dering and Dr. Jerry Davenport. Art Iverson, a fellow comrade, will share memories of their time in Vietnam.
Military honors will be presented by American Legion Post #595.

Pallbearers are Justin Burk, Keith Petty, Trent Petty, Dallas Cloud, Rowdy Holmsley and Sam Martinez.  Honorary Pallbearers are Art Iverson, Dr. Moe Barbee, Reid Holmsley, Bobby Johnson, Herbie Noelke, Mike Leikam, Pete Billings, David Winters and Jack Skiles.
